Elena West Jodo Seminar April 5th and 6th 2025

Dublin Kendo is happy to announce that Elena West, 6th Dan Jodo, will be leading  a Jodo Seminar on the 5th and 6th April, 2025.

This is Elena's first return to Ireland in over 2 years, so this event is not to be missed!

Elena West, 6th Dan, is shown here in (right hand side, white row) with the Jo, competing at the European Jodo Championships 2017. Elena West is the teacher of our clubs two Jodo instructors. 

Jodo is the way of the stick, and is a comprehensive martial arts system teaching you how to fight with a 4-foot staff. This seminar is perfect for complete beginners to the martial arts, and for those more familiar with martial arts who want to learn a new art with the most common and versatile weapon available. You'll also learn the art of Japanese Swordsmanship along the way!

During this Seminar You Will Learn...

The Essential Skills to Level Up Your Jodo

The 12 Fundamentals Movements of Japanese Staff Fighting and Self Defence
How to use a 4 foot staff to parry, deflect, trap and control, strike, thrust, push and throw an attacker, from multiple directions and from multiple attacks
How to cut and thrust, and block and deflect attacks with a Japanese Sword
Detailed kata, working with a partner, to develop distance, timing, cooperation and communication along with realistic fighting skills and much more.

Award Winning Jodo

Elena is an innovative and exciting teacher who has trained our senior instructors, John Kennedy and Batman O'Brien for nearly a decade.

Her unique approach to training has led to too many accolades and medals to count, and she is the current BKA Jodo Squad Coach.

Her teachings resulted in Kennedy winning bronze medals at the BKA Jodo National Championships 2017 in the Shodan category and 3-person Team Category, and O'Brien taking the Fighting Spirit Award (Teams) at the 2023 European Jodo Championships (with Elena having won the Fighting Spirit award the day before in the Individuals!)

Dublin Kendo will be hosting Elena on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April, 2025.

Saturday 5th:  10:00am - 4.00pm

Sunday 6th: 10:00am - 4:00pm

Where

- Saturday: Training will take place in The Ballybough Community Youth & Sports Centre, 49 Ballybough Road, Ballybough, Dublin 3

- Sunday: Training will take place in Nagle Hall, Marino Institute of Education, Griffith Avenue, Marino, Dublin 9.

This high level seminar is just €60 per person for the 2-day training session.  Payment details are provided on completion of the registration form.
