This 2 Day Seminar intensive training is suitable for both complete beginners and advanced students of Kendo, featuring some of the highest levels of detailed training and practical application from one of the finest Kendoka and Kendo crasftmen in Japan.
Tashiro Sensei is great supporter of Irish Kendo and his seminars are a highlight of our training calander. So, level up your skills and join us on the 10th to the 12th of March 2023 at the Marino Institute of Education, Dublin Ireland for the best Kendo training of the year.
Kendo means "Way of the Sword". It is a traditional Japanese martial art of sword-fighting which was developed as a safe way for Samurai to practice their swordsmanship. A physically exhilarating martial art, kendo is a physically and mentally challenging activity that combines Martial Arts etiquette such as respect for your teachers and opponent, with regular physical practice.
The teachings of Kendo were based on practical experience from the battlefield as practice moved from using real swords to using wooden swords, known as Bokken. With the introduction of the bamboo sword, (Shinai), around 1711- 1715 Kendo reached a major breakthrough. Shortly after this the Kote (gauntlets), Do (breast plate), Tare (hip/groin protector), and Men (head protector) were invented and the art gained popular usage in the Dojo (fencing hall). With the advent of the new equipment, the swordsman was no longer hindered by the risk of injury during practice and could concentrate totally on his technique...the "Way of the Sword".
Tashiro Sensei is not only a highly celebrated Kendo teacher but also an unparalled Kendo Craftsman and bogu maker. He is the owner of Tenpudo Bogu shop. Over the years Sensei has made many of us custom armour and given us:
Kendo na hEireann was formally established in 1998, making this seminar the first Irish Kendo event of it's 25th year celebrations!
One of the greatest of Kendos gifts is the strong sense of international friendship and community it creates and fosters.
Our club and our association, the many friends we have made and wonderful people we have met would not exist without Kendo. We are deeply grateful to Tashiro Sensei for his continued support and friendship.
We hope to see many of our friends at the seminar and look forward to sharing the beauty of Ireland, training in historic locations, and great keiko in this next chapter of Irish Martial Arts history.
